Fresh, witty, and vibrant, BY HOOK OR BY CROOK is the first feature from artist/rock-star duo Harry Dodge (Sister Spit) and Silas Howard (Tribe 8). This butch-buddy movie reinvents the traditional Hollywood genre with a humorous and keen exploration of gender-identity, mental illness, and economic hardship. Down on her luck, Shy (Howard), a handsome loner, heads to San Francisco to make it as a small-time criminal. Upon arriving in the big city, Shy stumbles across an eccentric stranger, Valentine (Dodge), who is on a haphazard quest to locate her birth mother. These two misfits join forces for a series of hilarious heists as they continue the search. With incredible performances from Flipper and Dodge, this character-driven story offers poignant insights on trust and friendship. Enhanced by a great soundtrack from the Geraldine Fibbers, Low, and Joan Jett, BY HOOK OR BY CROOK is utterly post-post-modern, a little bit country, and a little bit rock and roll. BY HOOK OR BY CROOK screened as a work-in-progress at the 2000 Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. It has since won awards for best screenplay and best narrative at this year's OUTFEST in Los Angeles. We are proud to present this special benefit screening.
