| Ellen Hardy (BOB AND ROSE’s Barbara Marten), a 1950s housewife in the industrial North of England, is vaguely dissatisfied with her life. Her working-class husband resents her encouragement of their young son’s artistic abilities, and the tension has put a strain on their marriage. The bright spot in her day is the occasional conversation with her son’s attractive art teacher, Kathy. As the women develop a friendship, it slowly becomes clear that there is more between these two women than a simple parent-teacher relationship. As Ellen struggles with her growing feelings for Kathy, her marriage begins to unravel, and she must gather the strength she needs to challenge social mores and claim her own destiny. Playing
