ALL IN THE FAMILY: SHORTSFURTOTICA/GALLERY SHOW

October 18 to 26

Since last year’s screening of Rick Castro’s PLUSHIES AND FURRIES, fascination with this subculture has only grown stronger. This year we invite you to experience FUROTICA, curated by Castro, that will be held at both Vain and the Pound Gallery.

"Sometime around 1980, a group of disenfranchised attendees at a Trekkie convention decided to create their own fandom. The common bond among the group was an interest, in varying degrees, in anthropomorphic animals (the fusion of animals with human characteristics). They created the first annual ConFURence, and the Furry fandom was born.

Weaned on heavy doses of Hanna Barbara, Disney, and anime, Furries brought animal fascination into their adulthood by presenting the characters in adult situations. They are adamant, however, that sexuality is only the smallest fraction of the fandom, just as sexuality plays only a small role in a person who’s gay.

Through FUROTICA, you can explore anthropomorphic longing and desires; animalistic fantasies and toonphilia (the eroticising of cartoons); transpecies and T/F transformation (the desire to become partly or entirely an animal); and Herpetophilia (the erotic attraction to reptiles, a.k.a, scalies). Welcome to the brave new fuzzy world!"
– Rick Castro
