FESTIVAL
HIGHLIGHTS AND PARTIES
There
are so many great films to choose from, we know you cant see
them all. Allow us to direct your attention to some of the festival
highlights.
We
are proud present our OPENING NIGHT presentation the Sundance
smash DIE MOMMIE DIE (with special
guests director Mark Rucker and star Jason Priestley no kidding!)
to the Super8 Wonders of the World. Festival Centerpiece LATTER
DAYS is fresh from a triumph at Outfest, where it won the Outstanding
First Narrative Feature Award. HAIRSPRAY meets VALLEY OF THE DOLLS
in our simmering sneak preview, and GOLDFISH
MEMORY wraps it all up CLOSING NIGHT with a saucy tale of revolving-door
romance.
This
year, bringing you the best queer film from around the world was
easier than ever since some was made right here in Seattle. Our
LOCAL SHORTS program features
the work of a talented batch of Northwest artists. The LAST
DANCE AT THE TIMBERLINE is a fond look back at one of Seattles
most famous and historic queer bars
you or your friends might
even be in it! And were proud to copresent a screening of
GORY GORY HALLELUJAH with the Warren Report on Tuesday, October
21, 7pm at the Seattle Art Museum. This new work by Sue Corcoran
is local filmmaking at its bloody best. For more info on this screening,
visit www.thewarrenreport.com.
We
are very excited about the return of PARADISE
HOTEL! Comprising salon-style, interactive art installations,
each room invites you to explore a new world. Take a break and let
the DJs spin you on the dance floor. Provocative, edgy, and with
just the right amount of naughty, youll be talking about this
party well into the New Year. Sing along with SINGIN
IN THE RAIN to welcome the first drizzly days of fall. For all
you crooners who cant get enough, the film lovers version
of karaoke returns in CINE-OKE: RELOADED.
Hanging on to old home movies, film school flops, or guilty video
pleasures? Dust off those VHS tapes and submit them to our very
first GONG SHOW! Hosted by LA author
and funnyman Dennis Hensley, lucky audience winners could walk away
with great prizes if they escape the gong!
Were
thrilled to present two rare screenings of archival films, both
by queer directors. WORKING GIRLS,
directed by Dorothy Arzner, has been hailed as her most daring and
innovative film. One of the greatest American female directors,
Arzner launched the careers of some of Hollywoods biggest
female stars, including Katharine Hepburn. SYLVIA
SCARLETT, directed by George Cukor, is our tribute screening
to the late, great Kate. Brazen and unconventional, Hepburn was
a star like no other, and in this film (one of her first starring
roles) she disguises herself as a man (and kisses a woman!)
one of the most handsome crossdressers ever captured on screen.
This years festival pays homage to many remarkable women,
including Martha Graham (GHOSTLIGHT),
and lesbian pioneers Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon (NO
SECRET ANYMORE).
Were
also pleased to present two free programs with the Capitol Hill
Branch of the Seattle Public Library. You can bring the whole family
to JUST FOR KIDS, a collection
of entertaining short films, or be inspired and energized by FIGHT
BACK, FIGHT AIDS: 15 YEARS OF ACT UP (just in time for the elections)!
