favorite Thom Fitzgerald (THE HANGING GARDEN, BEEFCAKE) returns
with a masterful portrait of love, loss, and the right to die. In
Manhattan, a district attorney prosecutor (Parker Posey) is looking
into the circumstances surrounding the death of Matt (Don McKellar),
a man who had been struggling with AIDS. The events which occurred
at a party hosted by Matt on the night of his death unfold through
interviews and flashbacks, and the young investigator is forced
to grapple with the moral and legal ambiguities which arise when
a man chooses to end his life on his own terms. A celebration of
life as well as a rumination on death, THE EVENT features finely
crafted performances from an outstanding ensemble cast including
Brent Carver, Sarah Polley, and the marvelous Olympia Dukakis as
Matts mother.
