The Complete 2003 Festival Schedule

GALLANT GIRLS
(DIE RITTERINNEN)
Harvard Exit Theatre
Tuesday, October 21
7:15pm

During the late 1980s a group of passionate, radical women in Berlin formed an all-female anarchist collective to fight against patriarchal corporate domination, with the full intention of hanging the world. Filmmaker Barbara Teufel provides a first-hand account of her experience as one of the “female knights” with an inspiring and sexy narrative recreating these women’s lives in the volatile Kreuzberg district of West Berlin. Interspersed are interviews with the original seven activists some twenty years later, and actual media footage from the time, just before the wall came down, when there were mass protests against the IMF and the WTO. Proving that the personal is political, GALLANT GIRLS shows the power and idealism of young women reveling in sexual freedom, who share a determination to make the world a better place.

GALLANT GIRLS (DIE RITTERINNEN); Barbara Teufel, director; 2003; Germany; 95 minutes; 35mm (in German with English subtitles)
