The Complete 2003 Festival Schedule

LAUGHING MATTERS
Broadway Performance Hall
Tuesday, October 21
9:30pm

Laugh out loud with four celebrated—and out—female comedians: Kate Clinton, Marga Gomez, Suzanne Westenhoefer, and Karen Williams. Get an in-depth look at each of these performer’s upbringings and backgrounds, and what brought them to the world of stand-up comedy. All four have been out lesbians their entire careers, which has been integral both to their on-stage personae and their particular brands of social commentary, as they riff on politics, family, religion, and of course sexuality. In LAUGHING MATTERS, these hilarious women tell their stories about coming out and being out in public in the early ‘80s -- not the easiest choice in the largely sexist and homophobic world of stand-up comedy. The film not only provides us interviews and a peek backstage, but treats us to VERY funny performance footage when these talented comedians take center stage to “heal with humor” and—most importantly—make us laugh.
