MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH: DOCUMENTARY SHORTS
Experience Music Project: JBL Theater
Sunday, October 19
5:00pm

These four great documentary shorts capture the poignancy of the human condition—in celebration, honor, and remembrance. The winner of the 2003 Sundance Film Festival jury prize for Best Short Film, TERMINAL BAR details the transformation of a New York City watering hole from a blue collar Irish-American bar to an African-American gay bar. LOSING LOIS is an emotional look at the death of lesbian police officer Lois Marrero, and her domestic partner’s battle to obtain spousal benefits. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT DYING: A TRIBUTE TO KRIS KOVICK is an ode to the late Kris Kovick, who succumbed to breast cancer in 2001. Interviews capture Kovick’s humor, activism, and spirit as friends pay tribute to her writing, artwork, and spoken word performances (most notably with Sister Spit). THE RUBI GIRLS highlights the careers and antics of a close-knit troupe of Midwestern drag queens whose comedic live performances redefine “family values.”
