MY LIFE ON ICE
(MA VRAIE VIE À ROUEN)
Harvard Exit Theatre
Monday, October 20
5:00pm

The directors of ADVENTURES OF FELIX and JEANNE AND THE PERFECT GUY return with a new film shot entirely from the perspective of a 16-year-old boy. When Etienne receives a camera to document his training for the French ice skating championship, he discovers that the world looks different through its lens—literally giving him a whole new outlook on his surroundings. What begins as an ordinary video diary becomes a voyeuristic journey of self-discovery as he records the homoerotic imagery around him. He asks his friend, “Can two men love each other?” and not receiving a satisfactory answer, Etienne resolves to find out for himself. MY LIFE ON ICE is a sweet, elegant, and unexpectedly moving account of a teenage boy’s emotional and sexual awakening.

MY LIFE ON ICE (MA VRAIE VIE A ROUEN); Olivier Ducastel, Jacques Martineau, directors; 2002; France; 102 minutes; 35mm (in French with English subtitles)

Copresented by Lambert House
