JUCHITÁN
QUEER PARADISE
Little

Local
legend has it that God gave Vicente Ferrer, the patron saint of
Juchitán, a bag full of queers to distribute throughout Latin
America. He went about leaving a queer or two here and there, but
when he reached southern Mexico, he tripped and spilled the rest
into Juchitán. The abundance of queer community is striking,
especially considering the setting: a small town in the Mexican
state of Oaxaca. Interviews with various citizens, including the
mayor, call into question preconceptions about social conservatism
south of the border. Director Patricio Henriquezs
story of three community leaders celebrates the peace and acceptance
experienced by all in this seemingly utopian JUCHITÁN QUEER
PARADISE.
