THE
ROAD TO LOVE
(TARIK
EL HOB)
Broadway Performance Hall
Tuesday, October 21
5:00pm
French-Algerian
sociology student Karim has trouble finding interviewees for his
term project, a video documentary on homosexual relationships in
Islamic cultures. As his research progresses, he meets smoldering
and seductive flight attendant Farid. In Farid, Hakim has a perfect
subject... but he comes to admire more than just Farids insight.
When he learns that some cultures have accepted and encouraged same-sex
unions, Karim ultimately begins to face his own desires. Slow-burning
and smart, THE ROAD TO LOVE offers a fascinating historical take
on the rich history of homosexuality in northern Africa. Set in
scenic locales from Paris to Marseilles to Amsterdam, (with a brief
detour to Jean Genets grave in Larache, Morocco), THE ROAD
TO LOVE is a shrewd and sensual tale of enchantment and desire.

ROAD TO LOVE; Remi Lange, director; 2001; France; 70 minutes; video
