| One of the hottest topics in our community
is gay marriage, and we're providing a variety
of takes on this subject. MARRY ME creates a cinematic wedding album
on the marriages performed in SF this year, TYING THE KNOT highlights
the unjustices being done against LGBT couples who are denied marriage
rights, and the romantic comedy APRIL’S SHOWER is a lighter
take on making commitments.
Our
archival films will allow you to take a tour of the past 70 years.
You may remember HAROLD’S HOME MOVIES from our 2002 festival.
Now you can revisit this collection of films from the 1930s-1970s,
with narration by Harold and his partner of more than 50 years.
We’re providing a rare opportunity to see REBEL WITHOUT A
CAUSE, with the screenwriter present for a post screening discussion.
Experience the
beginnings of the vampire lesbian genre with the haunting VAMPIRE
LOVERS. And you won’t want to miss the 20th anniversary screening
of THE TIMES OF HARVEY MILK on a newly restored print.
Many of the films at this year’s festival have local connections.
LOCAL
PRODUCE has animated films, documentaries and experimental work,
all done by Seattle-area filmmakers. BRUSH
FIRES features SLGFF favorite
Wendy Jo Carlton, and THE GRAFFITI ARTIST by NW filmmaker Jimmy
Bolton, was set and made in Portland and Seattle. Jenny Ting and
Tan Vo team up to expose the local lesbian dating scene with NOT
STRAIGHT FORWARD, and both the director and producer of our Opening
Night film, EATING OUT, were born and raised in Seattle.
And don’t forget our programs that are suitable for the whole
family. FREE
FOR FAMILIES at the Capitol Hill library has three short films
about being in school and dealing with queer issues. And we return
to our Julie Andrews
roots with this year’s MARY POPPINS SING ALONG, come join
in the chorus and break out your brooms and umbrellas for the costume
contest!
