Director Faith Trimel’s dark relationship
drama explores the toll mental illness takes on a burgeoning love
affair between two beautiful young women. Most films about mental
illness center on the person afflicted, but BLACK AURA ON AN ANGEL
focuses on the afflicted person’s partner, Angel (played by
Trimel). A happy and successful African-American woman, Angel begins
a relationship with the deeply disturbed Phaedra (the gorgeous Sherry
Richardson). From coffee date to adoring sexual relationship, love
blossoms quickly, until Phaedra’s persona slowly swings from
unfounded jealousy to explosive bouts of anger. As Phaedra’s
behavior tends towards violence, it may be too late for Angel to
back out.
