From San Francisco to New Mexico, Portland to New
England, 2004 was the year that brought gay marriage to the forefront
of the nation’s attention. MARRY ME tells the stories of several
same-sex couples married in San Francisco earlier this year. Starting
with how they met, each couple shares the journey that led them
to City Hall. To great effect, director Eli Brown uses no narration
and lets each couple’s experience unfold through their own
words. The film becomes a collective wedding album, with gorgeous
photographic stills punctuating the uplifting and emotional events
caught on film. MARRY ME will make you say “I do.”
Screening with One Wedding and a Revolution
which goes behind-the-scenes at San Francisco city hall for the
frantic days leading up to the first same sex wedding between longtime
lesbian activists Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon. Exclusive interviews
with Mayor Gavin Newsom and key community leaders reveal the political
process and motivation behind the historic decision to grant marriage
licenses to same sex couples.
