When Ocean Meets Sky

Sunday, October 17, 2:00pm

All-night parties, gorgeous homes, and celebrity visitors weren’t always the status quo at the luxurious gay resort of Fire Island Pines, New York. This documentary, celebrating the Pines’ 50th anniversary, revisits the early days when the Pines was a small yet popular nudist colony, the 1970s when hedonism ruled the island, and the ‘80s when the AIDS epidemic hit it hard. Along the way we are introduced to a diversity of Pines inhabitants and visitors, including the oldest living Fire Island resident, 101-year-old Alice Thorpe; Queer Eye’s fashion maven, Carson Kressley; ACT-UP founder, Larry Kramer; and Broadway composer, Jerry Herman. WHEN OCEAN MEETS SKY paints a picture of a larger LGBT community: active, vibrant, and thriving.
