FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
The 2004 Seattle Lesbian Gay Film Festival opening feature
EATING OUT is a hybrid sex comedy exploring themes of sexual orientation
confusion and directed by Seattle native and festival guest Q. Allen Broka.
Director Ekachai Uekrongtham will personally present festival Centerpiece
BEAUTIFUL BOXER, which tells the story of Thai transgender boxer Nong Toom.
Closing the festival this year is the heart-warming coming out story DORIAN
BLUES, starring Michael McMillian of the WB Network’s “What I Like About You”.
Spotlight APRIL’S SHOWER is a light, romantic look at the
meaning of family in our modern times. Producer Christopher Racster will be in
attendance along with VIPs from the film.
Documentaries include local film NOT STRAIGHT FORWARD,
which portrays lesbian dating in a reality show-style. SUPERSTAR IN A HOUSE
DRESS chronicles the story of gender-bending Warhol factory personality Jackie
Curtis. Joint presentation of GAY PIONEERS/RAINBOW PRIDE takes a look at the
history of gay activism in the 1960s and the rainbow as a symbol of LGBT pride.
Special screenings include a rare archival presentation of
REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE followed by a moderated Q&A session with screen
writer Stewart Stern. We are also proud to present an anniversary screening
the1984 Oscar-winning THE TIMES OF HARVEY MILK, which chronicles the life and
death of the nation’s first ever openly-gay politician, San Francisco City
Council Member Harvey Milk.
With Halloween right around the corner, why not get into
the spirit early? A number of films this year add a queer twist to the horror
genre. MAKE A WISH is a tongue and cheek slasher style horror flick that
follows the story of a group of lesbians on a camping trip. Director Sharron
Ferranti will be in attendance. HELL BENT, set in a West Hollywood park, and a
special screening of the 1970 classic THE VAMPIRE LOVERS will also be
highlighted.
The SLGFF “FREE FOR FAMILIES” programs continue in 2004
with a free, 79 minute presentation of three films at the Capitol Hill branch
of the Seattle Public Library. Films include LET’S GET REAL, a documentary
about pre-pubescent bullying. DID YOU KNOW THAT MR. MICHAEL IS GAY? chronicles
the story of one teachers experience coming out to his class that will include
the appearance of Mr. Michael and director Ian David Aronson. And finally
WEIGHT OF THE WORLD: A STORY OF VOLUNTEERING provides a peek behind the scenes
of Seattle’s Lambert House – a drop-in center and safe haven for local GLBTQ
youth.
