HIV+ Alejandro must make a difficult decision when he realizes that the treatment he receives in Mexico City is not working as he had hoped. His options? To stay in Mexico and watch his t-cells plummet, or to travel to the U.S. for the more promising treatments available there. When he decides to make the trip, his partner Beto is resentful, and the gravity of Alejandro's decision creates pressures that threaten to tear the two lovers apart forever. Meanwhile, after repeatedly requested and denied visas to visit the U.S., it becomes clear to Alejandro that the only way to cross the border is illegally.
The Other Side is a touching love story that also explores the grim realities often faced by HIV+ men and women in developing countries. The accomplished supporting cast that includes the acclaimed Eduardo Lopez Rojas (Mi Familia) and Patricia Reyes Spindola (La Riena de la Noche) compliments a strong debut by both lead actors.
