It is amazing the world is not filled with films about John Waters. No other underground filmmaker has been more influential in the world of cinema, nor brought such infamous and incendiary images to the screen. Director Steve Yeager traces Waters' life from his childhood in working class Baltimore to the production of the unforgettable cult classic Pink Flamingos. Never-before-seen footage shot by Yeager himself takes us behind the scenes, and features interviews with the 25-year-old Waters and his eccentric family of cast and crew, not the least of which is the superstar Glenn Milstead, aka Divine. "He was an actor who started his career as a homicidal maniac and ended it playing a loving mother," says Waters, "which is a pretty good stretch, especially when you are a 300-pound man."
If you are unfamiliar with Waters' work, you will be treated to some of the outrageousness you have been missing, and if you are a devoted fan, you just may learn a thing or two about this cinematic renegade.
